What is the problem? The player told on Reddit how he started playing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and after a few minutes in the game a warning appeared on the screen stating that his console was too hot and needed to shut down.
The player suspected that something was wrong with his PS5. For this reason, he opened his PS5 and was surprised to find that the ventilation opening was completely rusted.
Rust occurs at (too) high humidity in the room
Why does the PS5 rust? The problem is actually not the console, but the player’s living situation. In another post, he mentions that he lives in a tropical country and right on the coast.
Normally, high humidity can already cause metal to start rusting. In the user’s case, there is also salt present in the air from the sea. And salt promotes the electron exchange between metal and oxygen, accelerating rusting.
What can you do about it? The community recommends that he buy a dehumidifier, so his hardware no longer develops rust. Otherwise, the high humidity will continue to affect his console.
Another option would be to apply a protective layer to the metal that prevents rust on the metal. Here, a distinction is made between active and passive corrosion protection.
And if you don’t live by the sea? In general, we also advise you to regularly check the humidity in your living space. High humidity can lead not only to rust but also to increased mold growth in the room. And that poses a long-term health risk.
