A player’s graphics card gets very hot under load: The solution costs him almost 7 euros. Other players claim to have had similar issues with their graphics cards.
A player reports on Reddit that he built a new gaming PC a few months ago. The PC has been running without issues since then, but his graphics card gets way too hot while gaming: According to him, the GPU temperatures constantly reach 80 – 82 °C in some games, which he considers too high. How hot a graphics card can get under load can be read on MeinMMO.
Upon inspection, the user later found that there is a large gap between the backplate and the heatpipes of his graphics card. He suspected that the backplate could not properly dissipate the heat, making it impossible to cool the graphics card effectively.
Thermal pads for 7 euros solve the graphics card heat problem
The user’s solution: He bought thermal pads, cut them into strips, and stuffed them into the gap. Immediately, the temperatures of the graphics card under load dropped. He explains on Reddit:
So I got some thermal pads, cut them into thin strips, and stuffed them in this gap to fill the space. Now my temperatures under the same load are at 65-67 °C. I suspect that due to this gap, the backplate did not transfer the heat properly and the thermal pads have fixed the problem.
He mentioned that he paid about 8 US dollars for the thermal pads. Converted, that’s almost 7 euros. On Amazon, you pay between 5 and 10 euros for customizable thermal pads.
Is he the only one with the problem? No, under the thread on Reddit, several users report that they have had similar problems with their graphics cards.
The graphics card purchased by the user, a Gigabyte Windforce RTX 4070, is considered a well-known candidate in the community when it comes to heat issues. One person from the community refers on Reddit to the fact that Gigabyte later adjusted its Windforce model of the RTX 4070: The current model has been modified so that temperatures should no longer be an issue.
A player is desperate: The temperatures in his gaming PC are way too high, especially his CPU is a problem. None of the solutions have worked, and only an upgrade for 15 euros is the decisive solution. He himself cannot believe what a difference the upgrade makes: A player upgraded his gaming PC and is surprised at what a single upgrade for 15 euros can do
