A player apparently heard a loud bang in Dune: Awakening and set out to loot a spaceship that was just crashing. But he did not expect a nasty trap from the developers.
What did the player want to loot? In Dune: Awakening, loud bangs happen rarely. This always occurs when a spaceship crashes and falls from the sky. This bang is so loud that it can be clearly heard by players all around, and it gives every player the chance to spot good loot.
Exactly such a big loot was what a player wanted to loot on Reddit. User XirtCS made his way to such a burning wreck with his sandbike and unknowingly walked into a nasty trap set by the developers.
Here you can find out which class you should choose in Dune: Awakening:
A loud bang also attracts worms
What kind of trap was that? A loud bang and a burning wreck promise a lot of loot, but such an event also attracts the sandworms, who are already waiting for their prey. The player on Reddit had to realize this, as soon as he gets off his sandbike, the worm gauge in the HUD lights up bright red.
No sooner had he dismounted from the bike and with the cutting tool in hand, the player runs to the crashed spaceship and immediately gets to work. He tears open the outer hull and loots the items from the ship’s cargo hold. Meanwhile, the worm threat gauge reaches its peak.
With the loot in his pockets, the player makes his way back, but a large sandworm has already taken up the chase. Just before he reaches a safe rocky area, he sees the worm approaching.
At the last second, the player manages to escape to safety, while the worm rises from the ground only a few meters away from him. He narrowly escaped the worm and kept his loot, because whoever gets eaten by the worm loses everything.
Here you can see the moment as a video:
Was that just coincidence? No, the shipwrecks are meant to consciously attract players by promising good items and loot. But as good as the loot is, the danger from sandworms is meant to be just as high in this case. However, the developers do not explain this mechanic, which can make a crashed spaceship quickly turn into a nasty trap. The loud bang attracts all creatures from Arrakis, not just the players.
Sandworms are a constant threat in Dune: Awakening, but many do not know what they really are. Niko Hernes has explored their origins and found out how sandworms really come into being: Everyone knows the sandworms from Dune, but very few know what they really are
