In the new MMORPG New World, money is something just as important as in most other MMORPGs. One player has now been particularly creative and managed to utilize the “property” system so effectively that he became filthy rich overnight.
What happened? The new MMORPG New World is currently in a closed beta phase, meaning it hasn’t officially been released yet. Nevertheless, there is already a player so wealthy that rebellions against him are being planned. Overnight, the resourceful fellow earned 1.7 million gold, which is an enormous amount in the game.
How did he do it? The player utilized the “property” system in New World. You can purchase the land rights to certain areas and towns in the game, and can then control how much tax you need to pay there.
If he then holds the sole land right, a large part of the taxes flows directly into his personal treasury. The player first earned 100,000 gold to purchase the land rights of “Windsward.” Subsequently, he raised the taxes of the area to 30% and thus earned over 1.7 million gold overnight.
The community reacts with amazement and humor: Many players are impressed and astonished that this way of earning money actually works. They are also surprised that players have already figured out how to exploit this system so efficiently.
This curious event is attracting even more players to New World. One user even writes on reddit: “New World hasn’t really interested me at all, but let’s be honest – forming rebellions against tax-collecting cartels sounds like a lot of fun.”
But not everyone is taking it with so much humor. Some players take the comment about the rebellion a bit too seriously and are planning a revolt against the super-rich player. They are calling for people to band together and burn the town down.
