A player has actually “managed” to achieve a very rare event in Baldur’s Gate 3, which sounds nearly impossible due to the odds alone.
What happened to the player? It’s understandable that a game with dice like Baldur’s Gate 3 is at least a bit related to luck, despite various bonuses and advantages. After all, you build your characters with their skills and talents to help with that luck. However, one player had to find out that all the advantages cannot save you from a great stroke of bad luck.
Boldevin shares on Reddit that he experienced a situation in Baldur’s Gate 3 that can only occur once in 64 million cases, which amazed not only him but the entire community. His Minthara managed to roll a Nat 1 three times in a row, despite advantage rolls (that is, rolling two dice per attack roll) – 3 critical failures, with a probability of 0.0000015625 %.

“I thought only Shadowheart could miss so badly”
How could this happen? The community tried to understand how this situation could occur, whether it was a bug or simply bad luck.
Some comments mentioned the Karmic Dice in Baldur’s Gate 3, which are activated by default.
The game explains the Karmic Dice as “Karmic Dice avoid streaks of luck or misfortune and keep the results predominantly random.” The player reports on in response to TrekThroughCuriosity that he had even unconsciously activated the Karmic Dice, which makes the situation even crazier.
How does the community react? The players recognize the impressive rarity of this unfortunate event.
- MrKiltro: “You’d better get a lottery ticket! Or wait… I guess don’t buy a lottery ticket. You know what, don’t even leave the house. It’s not safe out there for you.”
- PineappleJealous: “Nah, he should better buy the ticket, he has exhausted his bad luck for at least the next 1.5 years.”
Many of them draw a direct comparison to Shadowheart, whose rather mediocre hit rate has become a running gag in the community:
- TheSeventhSentinel: “That’s not Minthara, that’s Shart [the community’s nickname for Shadowheart] in disguise.”
- JethroTheDuck: “I thought only Shadowheart could miss so badly, lol.”
- ToadButSitting: “Shadowheart missed 4 attacks with a 98% hit rate with high ground, so I feel you.”
That Shadowheart misses so many attacks, especially at the beginning of the game, has its reasons and is not due to the cleric herself. You don’t need to banish her from your team because with the right spells, even Shadowheart can show that she can do more than just heal in battle: Player explains why you never hit with Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 and how she gets better
