Dying Light 2 apparently takes place somewhere in Europe. However, the exact location has never been officially revealed. Now a player has used hints from the game to investigate – and claims to have found out which city you are jumping over the rooftops in.
Where does Dying Light 2 take place? The city where Aiden and the other survivors live is called Villedor. This name, which sounds slightly Spanish or French, does not belong to any city you would find on a real map.
While Harran from the first part is based on the Turkish city of the same name, Villedor is currently considered a fictional city. The official statement from the developers is that Villedor is “somewhere in Europe.” There are no more precise clues.
In any case, Dying Light 2 takes place in Europe, and the city itself has many European influences. This makes it particularly surprising that there is no Italian voiceover, which frustrates some fans.
A member of the community found the statement that Villedor is supposed to have “traces of Paris or Berlin, and maybe also of northern German cities like Hamburg.” Now, however, another user has found hints about where exactly Villedor could be located.

A player has found out: reddit user Axoltlover asked the NPCs in the city. They say that Villedor supposedly burned down completely in 1775.
After a brief investigation, he found out that exactly this happened in the city of Tartu in southeastern Estonia in the same year. Both the altitude and the design of the houses with their differently colored roofs also match, as he noted after comparisons.
Moreover, the fact that the days in the game last exactly 12 hours, just like in the city around September, fits. Since the NPCs have to “prepare for winter,” it is likely that it is currently late summer. Axoltlover is therefore sure: Villedor is Tartu in Estonia.
What other players say: The thread has attracted a lot of attention on reddit and prompted further speculations from other fans. For example, the user JuicyBullet is certain that Villedor is rather located in France and corresponds to the city of Clermont-Ferrand. Cathedral, cityscape, and landscape would fit better.
However, the city did not burn down in 1775, as other users point out. So it couldn’t be Clermont-Ferrand, even if the description fits. This leads some fans to speculate that Villedor is indeed in Estonia, but is modeled after other European cities.
Moreover, it is notable that there are many different accents and dialects to be heard in the game. This seems to stand out more in the English voiceover than in the German version.
