A player has great luck and gets an old Gameboy Color for just 1 dollar. Normally, you would have to pay significantly more for a functional model. However, especially the old games have become much more valuable now.
A player reports that he hit the jackpot. He tells that an elderly woman sold him her old Gameboy Color. He writes in his post on Reddit.com:
The old lady said she bought a Switch for Christmas and didn’t need this [device] anymore.
What is so crazy about the purchase? The surprising thing is not the sale itself, but the selling price. The old lady supposedly asked for only a single dollar, according to the player. That is about 96 Euro cents, so not even 1 Euro. The lady probably wasn’t aware of what she was selling.
Gameboy usually costs between 50 and 100 Euros, old games are even more expensive
What is a Gameboy usually worth? The price for a used, functional Gameboy Color ranges between 50 and 100 Euros. However, for some “Special Edition” models, the price is significantly higher. This is shown by our sample, which we conducted on eBay.de.
The situation is completely different for games that you can buy for the old generation. Especially for rare games like “Pokémon Crystal,” prices are well above 100 Euros. In the USA, some games are worth even more.
The Gameboy is also considered a very popular console among gamers. So popular, that a controversial YouTuber sparked a backlash when he encased a dozen Gameboys in resin. Many gamers at the time couldn’t understand why someone would simply encase such valuable retro devices in resin.
One person on Reddit discovered an unusual find. At their deceased grandmother’s place, they found 26 copies of Wario Land 4 and 13 copies of Mario Pinball Land. As if that weren’t strange enough, there were also 20 Game Boy Advance handhelds. The person themselves wrote that they suspect that the grandmother didn’t know how to overwrite old save data: A woman bought a Nintendo game over a dozen times because she apparently didn’t know how to delete the save file.
