In the hell hordes of Diablo 4, you defeat waves of monsters to collect Ether and ultimately claim loot. The sudden spawning of a bunch of treasure goblins in between is currently causing surprise. However, this is actually a new feature in Season 10.
Season 10 starts in Diablo 4 on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, and is called “Hellish Chaos”. In addition to new Chaos-uniques and Chaos powers, the chaos also runs through various activities. Players can already test the season now on the PTR on PC via Battle.net – and it was there that a user stumbled upon a very special wave of treasure goblins.
In the video, you can see all the goblin variants that have existed since the first “March of the Goblins” event in Diablo 4:
“Season 10 looks like a lot of fun”
Where did the many goblins appear? On Reddit, the user Angren1991 posted two screenshots from the hell hordes. Visible are a wave of so-called “Ether Goblins”. In one image, there are 12 goblins fighting simultaneously, according to his comment, there were over 50 running out of the portals.
His conclusion in the post: “You can have goblin rifts in the NEW hell hordes on the PTR for Season 10. I got about 400 Ether from the goblin rifts – and that with a really slow build. Fantastic change, the hell hordes will be really juicy with Season 10.”
The hell hordes are getting an upgrade in Season 10:
- Chaos monsters and occasional chaos waves are set to shake up your runs.
- The selectable gifts between waves are being revamped to feel more valuable and rewarding.
- At the end, you can choose to fight the boss “Bartuc, the Blood Warlord” instead of the Cruel Council.
So far, many players criticized that hell horde runs were “wasted” when no waves with hellflowers appeared – simply because too little Ether was collected. With the new chaos features and revamped gifts, Blizzard aims to address this issue.
In the comments, players praise the new chaos waves. Angren1991 says they provide variety and are just fun. Pulczuk adds: “Season 10 looks like a lot of fun.” And kanrad jokes: “You really have to mess up to not come out of the run with tons of Ether after the rework.”
Daohor jokingly writes in the comment that he can “finally break the 300 goblins for the achievement” – in reality, this particular achievement in Diablo 4 actually requires more than 6 million treasure goblins.
Ether Goblins as a new feature in the hell hordes
Is that how it should be? Users note in the comments that treasure goblins have spawned in hell hordes before. But now this is actually an intentional new feature. In the blog post about the PTR for Season 10, Blizzard writes:
“In the chaos waves, there are many different combinations to discover and master. Dodge deadly projectiles from chaos portals, kill an angry hell wyrm, or hunt unpredictable ether goblins. Chaos awaits!“
In addition to the ether goblins in the hell hordes, the new chaos uniques are also well received by the community. Systems designer Aislyn Hall promised in the “Sanctuary Sitdown” on the official Discord that Season 10 would be “absolutely wild” – even challenging players to “destroy” the season with the new items.
