As a player in Baldur’s Gate 3 searching for a special “view”, he came across a ritual he had never seen before. But to report on it, he must also admit how and why he found himself there in the first place.
What does the player admit? The caught, but admittedly honest player reports in the Subreddit of Baldur’s Gate 3 that he stumbled upon a place in the second act of the game that he had never seen before. In the Temple of Shar, a place where the goddess of darkness and loss is worshiped, the large statue of the aforementioned goddess seemed to impress the player. So much so that he wanted to get a closer look.
In the middle of the huge temple, he climbed down the partially hidden steps from which various angles of the statue can be viewed. The player was driven deeper for “reasons”.
“In fact, I wondered if they modeled [her butt] or not. I found my answer,” the player writes on Reddit, for which he is at least respected for his honesty.
What he gained besides the answer to his question is a secret place he had never heard of before.

What did the player find? At the feet of the giant Shar statue lies a half-finished ritual that can be triggered under the right conditions and with the correct execution. In fact, one does not have to stumble upon this place by chance (like the player did), but can also be led there by the somewhat strange rats in the temple. However, this hasn’t happened to the player in his first two playthroughs yet.
“No idea how I missed that back then,” writes the original author of the Reddit post, “I think I had a girlfriend back then.”
Instead of looking away from the statue unasked, he could have simply looked at the official beauty shots of the 3D model. On ArtStation, many artists share their works that are used in games (including Baldur’s Gate 3).
What is the purpose of the ritual site? The Temple of Shar is inhabited by many rats, which make somewhat cryptic statements when one can speak with animals. In various ways, one can discover during the exploration of the temple that these rats are not ordinary rats, but actually a person, a Shar follower named Lyrthindor.
To start the ritual, the book at the designated location must be read before lighting the candles of the ritual circle. A rat will appear and propose a deal to be left alone. However, if one refuses and attacks the rats, one will be attacked by a large swarm (not to be confused with Shar) of rats. If all the rats are defeated, Lyrthindor will eventually return to being a person.
Even though the background of the player, how he became aware of this place, is somewhat questionable – he is by no means the only one who discovers hidden or somewhat obvious content in Baldur’s Gate 3 only after several playthroughs.
