A player claims that his gaming PC is worth 4,000 euros. A friend shares pictures of his PC, but many say: This computer is certainly not worth that.
A player reports on reddit that his friend boasted about having a gaming PC worth 4,000 USD (around 3,700 euros) at home. To prove this, he sent his buddy a few pictures of his gaming PC to back up his words.
But the pictures do not really support the owner’s claims. Many in the community humorously explain where this PC could have cost 3,700 euros.
Spartan system with RTX 3060 and no RGB
What can be seen exactly? In the pictures, the owner’s gaming system looks very spartan:
- The motherboard is almost tiny for the large case,
- The graphics card is also a small model, and according to the friend, it is supposed to be an RTX 3060. This is more of an entry-level GPU, which costs around 300 euros today.
- There are three RGB fans installed in the front.
- There is no cable management, with some cables hanging very close to the fans, which causes viewers to shake their heads.
- No additional decorations, like figures or other upgrades, can be seen either.
Can the high price be true? Some players still remember that at times, one had to pay as much for a single graphics card as for a whole gaming PC. If you look at the price developments on Geizhals for an RTX 3060, you would have paid between 600 and 800 euros for the graphics card in the summer of 2021.
Nevertheless, many people in the community consider the stated value to be questionable. And some add: Either the player was cheated by his brother, who built the PC, or he must have taken drugs. One person says:
(…) The guy was cheated by his own brother. OR he is trying to show off with the PC and inflate the price he paid… which makes him, I’m not sure if he understands, look like a whole different kind of fool.
Another adds:
(…) I think it’s a combination of people just not understanding what things cost and wanting to sound wealthy.
Currently, you won’t pay more than 2,300 euros for a high-end PC
How much would you pay for a PC in 2024? Even a modern gaming system with Ryzen 7 7800X3D and an RTX 4080 would cost nowhere near 3,700 euros today. As a comparison, you can again check on Geizhals: For a gaming PC with Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 4080 and 32 GB RAM, you currently pay around 2,300 euros.
Unless you get ripped off when buying a gaming PC, as happened to a family father. Then you suddenly pay prices for hardware that are completely out of touch with reality.
Take your time when buying hardware: In general, take your time when buying new hardware and have little knowledge of the subject. If you buy hardware without any knowledge, it’s easy to get sold things that aren’t worth the money. In many cases, we are also talking about an investment that can quickly exceed 1,000 euros.
Also, “tools” like Idealo or Geizhals can help you assess the prices of hardware or components.
But it can get considerably more expensive: The German company Mifcon has introduced a gaming PC that costs nearly 30,000 euros. What you get for that money and for whom the investment is worthwhile can be read directly on MeinMMO:
