In Monster Hunter Wilds, a few familiar faces have already been confirmed. Joining the ranks of the returnees is now the Queen of the Land, and Capcom shares a first video featuring her.
Which monster is it about? “The Queen of the Land” Rathian now accompanies her king Rathalos among the confirmed opponents in Monster Hunter Wilds. Rathian is a flying wyvern and primarily encounters hunters on the ground, which is how she earned her title.
She is best recognized by her greenish scales and her pointed poisonous spikes at the end of her tail. In previous installments of Monster Hunter, she appeared more frequently and is thus a familiar face in the community. The fights in tandem with Rathalos have always been a part of the experience.
Since Rathalos rarely comes alone and was confirmed early for Monster Hunter Wilds, it was not surprising to suspect that his queen would soon follow. Now Capcom shares a first video showing Rathian in action.

What does the video show? In the short video (via x.com), you see a hunter sneaking up on a few eggs. However, a watchful Rathian quickly senses him and greets him with a hefty serving of fire.
Besides a really brief glimpse of Rathian lasting about 12 seconds, the teaser also shows us that we can look forward to stealth tasks and egg thefts once again. The shown environment also looks like a forest area, which would fit well with Rathian’s previously familiar habitats.
How does the community feel about this? On Reddit and x.com, the feedback is mostly positive. The confirmation of Rathian’s return comes as no surprise to veterans, as both Rathian and Rathalos are practically the mascots of Monster Hunter.
Despite this, they do not necessarily rank among the most popular monsters. In a survey (via monsterhunter.com) for the 20th anniversary of Monster Hunter, they finished with 21st place for Rathalos and 78th place for Rathian, not even making it to the winner’s podium. Nevertheless, the excitement for a reunion prevails and the audiovisual content is warmly welcomed by fans. They probably still belong to a proper line-up.
In a thread on Reddit, there is already a heated discussion about whether it will be possible again to sever her tail, thus taking away her ability to poison. This option was removed in Monster Hunter Rise, which also rendered a common tactic ineffective. Because even when her tail was severed, she could still poison. Fans wish to have the opportunity to take that ability away from her again.
