However, the “CFI-1200 Series” of the PS5 might just be the secret weapon needed to achieve the 18 million deliveries.

It is not excluded that the new series could be a possible PS5 Slim / Pro, but this is less likely. Currently, it indicates more towards a standard PS5 version, which will have some internal modifications.
Why is a new model needed? In a recent report on PS5 sales, Sony stated that they delivered around 11.5 million consoles in their fiscal year 2021. The fiscal year at Sony always ends in March.
For the fiscal year 2022, that is until March 2023, however, the manufacturer wants to sell another 18 million units. And even as graphics card prices slowly begin to fall – chip manufacturer Intel expects further shortages until at least 2024.
Sony sees a chance to revert to more readily available components through a change in its hardware. Or they see the possibility of involving other manufacturers.
This will not be easy. Many parts affected by the shortage are high-tech goods requiring a lot of know-how and extremely high standards in manufacturing.

Apparently, PlayStation manufacturer Sony has certified parts for a new model of the PS5. After ambitious announcements regarding the planned sales figures of the PlayStation 5, a revised model could be the secret weapon of the Japanese manufacturer.
What has emerged now? A certification for PlayStation manufacturer Sony has been discovered on a government website of the Japanese government. It concerns a revised radio module in the device (via tele.soumu.go.jp).
The registered type name is “CFI-1200 Series”. This aligns with the previous numbering of the PS5 models – CFI-1XXX and CF-11XX. An excerpt of the certificate can be found on Twitter:
What does that mean? Since there is currently no further official information about a new model, this could mean a lot. Already for the last new model in September 2021, Sony remained silent on the release.
At that time, cooling elements were exchanged, and the new console version was about 300 grams lighter.
However, there is a statement from Hiroki Totoki, the CFO of Sony, that raises eyebrows. He recently mentioned in a Q&A about Sony’s financial results in connection with a possible microchip shortage until 2024:
“[…] in various areas… we have changed our sourcing and among other things, we have also changed our design. So we were able to manage it. Therefore, for parts procurement, I think we have good prospects” – via videogameschronicle.com.
The senior Sony staff member Totoki did not directly refer to the PS5. However, combined with the discovery of the “CFI-1200 Series”, indications of potential changes to the console are intensifying to partially overcome the current hardware shortage.
