A new update in Anthem is supposed to finally end the Cataclysm today, October 16. At least those are the only advance informations that were available about the update in advance. However, it seems that the event will be rebooted.
When will the update arrive? The new update is scheduled for today, October 16 at around 3:00 PM German time. The patch notes appeared around 4:10 PM.
This is included in the update: It involves maintenance work that, according to previous information, will now only end the unofficial continuation of the Cataclysm . This is suggested by the developer Jesse Anderson’s tweet:
The only real hint about the end of the Cataclysm is this private tweet. In it, he advised all players to use up the shards from the Cataclysm event before the update.
Instead of the old Cataclysm event, it now says in the new patch notes that the “Season of Skulls” begins. In the new event, there are some changes:
- A season rating with new currency
- The drop rates of legendary items from “War Chests” have increased by 250%
- A new Legendary War Chest is now available for purchase in the shop
Frustration over communication, but what now?
This is why there is frustration: The Cataclysm was initially planned only as an event over several weeks and actually ended officially on September 25. After that, it only continued unofficially.
Players are frustrated that they only learned about this rather important update through the private Twitter account of a developer, who was later shared by a community member on reddit.
For such a message, one would have expected a post from EA or BioWare themselves on social media. In the corresponding post, there is hardly any other topic than this missing communication.
This is what happens next: With the new update, the “Season of Skulls” begins. In this, you collect a rating for the season, with which you receive more currency for the seasonal shop at a higher rank.
In addition, there are new events that you can play in freeplay. If you master three of these events, you summon a boss that you need to defeat.
What exactly could come after this Cataclysm event is, however, difficult to say because the developers have discarded the original plans for Anthem. The exact timing is also unclear. However, the start of a completely new event right after the end of the Cataclysm is unlikely.
While the Cataclysm was received well by many fans, it has not yet convinced everyone. With a new event that learns from past mistakes, Anthem could try again to win back players.
