In League of Legends, one of the most important aspects in the ranked mode is the draft, meaning the selection of champions. A lot can be determined from that point. A player has now developed an AI that is highly likely to tell you whether you will lose the upcoming match.
What kind of AI is this? The user Funny-Occasion-1712 showed a new AI on Reddit that he has developed. The LoLDraftAI is supposed to predict how likely you are to win or lose the upcoming match already based on the selection of champions.
However, there are restrictions. It only works for the last 3 patches and only based on the ranks Emerald, Diamond and everything above Master. It is also noted that data on less played champions is less precise.
The AI shows you which team is likely to win
How does the AI work? In the Reddit post, the developer states that the AI can supposedly predict 62% of ranked matches. The data for the AI comes from Riot itself; developers can access the numbers there. According to the AI’s developer, the current version was created from data of about 10 million matches.
He also worked on an AI for professional matches, but according to him, that didn’t work out because there are simply significantly fewer data than for the regular solo queue.
With 62%, the AI would also be quite accurate, especially considering that it only concerns the draft. If you input a team for both sides, the win probabilities of both teams will be predicted, along with the influence and the possible gold lead at 15 minutes.
How is the community reacting to the AI? The Reddit thread currently (as of 02.04.2025, 10:30) has 2,310 upvotes and over 420 comments. Most commentators are asking questions about the AI and the data used. User backelie (via Reddit) suggests turning it into a quiz where you should predict which team is more likely to win just from the draft.
We can only hope that such a tool doesn’t lead to people giving up after just 15 minutes or even leaving during the champion selection.
