With the KX-7000 series, the company Zhaoxin has introduced its new CPUs for consumers and gamers. And this processor looks really promising. It may not yet surpass AMD and Intel, but it could still become a hidden gem.
Who is behind the processor? Behind the new CPU is the Chinese company Zhaoxin. The company was founded in 2013 when VIA Technologies merged with the city government of Shanghai. Although VIA has not been particularly relevant in the CPU sector for several years, it is one of the three companies, alongside Intel and AMD, with a license for the x86 architecture.
Processor offers many important features, slightly behind AMD and Intel
What does the new processor offer? The new CPUs of the KX-7000 series are definitely the fast models that have been produced in China so far. They come with several features that modern CPUs from AMD or Intel also offer, such as PCIe 4.0 interfaces, DDR5 memory support, and USB4.
Especially compared to the predecessor series (KX-6000), the new processors represent a massive performance increase. Some reports suggest an increase between 20% and 30%. This is mentioned by colleagues from TomsHardware.com.
What can the processor do? On paper, the new Chinese processors initially lag behind the current processors from AMD and Intel: Both the Ryzen 7 7700X and the Core i5-13600K have significantly higher clock rates than the top model KX-7000 and offer more threads per core.
On the other hand, however, the KX-7000 offers several features that can also be found in modern CPUs, and in some aspects, it even surpasses Intel and AMD: The KX-7000 models support as much RAM as AMD’s current 7000 series and provide just as many PCIe lanes, and even more lanes than Intel’s mid-range processor.
While PCIe 5.0 is not available on the KX-7000, this currently plays almost no role in gaming. At least the advantages of PCIe 5.0 are quite limited.
What is the cost of the processors? Prices are not yet known. Sooner or later, the first prices should, however, appear either from the manufacturer, on AliExpress, or on other well-known trading sites. If the prices and performance turn out to be favorable in the end, the KX-7000 series could become a real hidden gem.

Why is this development so important? The KX-7000 is an important step forward for China’s young semiconductor industry, which aims to become independent of Western technologies and sanctions, and it comes from the only Chinese company with an x86 manufacturing license.
After the USA restricted the export of key technologies to China, the release of the KX-7000 is all the more significant for China.
