Nintendo has introduced a whole new experience in the Pokémon world with Pokémon Unite. In a MOBA, you should compete against each other as Pokémon, but that’s not going down well. Why?
This is Pokémon Unite: The game was surprisingly announced this week and places Pokémon in a battle arena where you compete against each other. The game is being developed together with Tencent. The huge company is also involved with PUBG, but also holds shares in Blizzard (5%) and Epic Games (48%). It is primarily known for the MOBA League of Legends.
In Pokémon Unite, you fight in a 5-vs-5 in an arena. You can defeat each other, but also battle wild Pokémon. This earns you points that will determine the winner at the end.
Over 150,000 Dislikes for Pokémon Unite
How is the game received? In a “Pokémon Presents” on the Pokémon Company’s YouTube channel, the MOBA was officially announced. The video currently (as of June 26 at 11:30 AM) has over 151,000 dislikes and the number continues to grow.
In the comments, there is a lot of criticism of Pokémon Unite:
- Many viewers call the game a remake of League of Legends in the Pokémon setting
- The collaboration between Nintendo and Tencent is not well received by many viewers
- Fans would rather see remakes of old Pokémon games and not a MOBA with a Pokémon setting
However, the biggest criticism from players is not the content of the game, but the handling of dislikes. Hundreds of people claim in the comments on the video that their dislike was deleted. They have to dislike the video again for the umpteenth time.
The user “Unknown The Cat” writes: “They did it again at about 141,000 dislikes. When I returned, there were suddenly only 139,000, and my dislike had been removed.”
Many of the commenters suspect Tencent behind the action. Whether the huge company actually had its hands in this is not clear. So far, there are only the fans’ speculations.
Are there positive voices as well? Alongside over 151,000 dislikes, there are also nearly 83,000 likes. In the comments, there are also some viewers who like the concept and are looking forward to Pokémon Unite.
When will the game be released? A specific release date is not yet known. The MOBA is set to be released on Nintendo Switch and smartphones.
