Pearl Abyss, the creators of Black Desert, have presented their new MMORPG Crimson Desert. The trailer looks extremely sleek and is well received by the audience.
What kind of MMORPG is this? Crimson Desert will be a dark and narrative-focused MMORPG. The focus will be on various characters, for whom there will also be single-player campaigns.
Nonetheless, it is supposed to be an open world, players will be able to trade with one another, and generally, it will remind many of Black Desert, even if it is only an unofficial successor.
Crimson Desert is still in an early stage of development. However, initial beta tests for PC and consoles are planned for 2020.
Trailer convinces MMORPG fans, but there are also concerns
How has the game been received so far? In our article on Crimson Desert, the trailer is extremely well received. The visuals are particularly praised. Our reader Kendrick Young writes:
Wow! The trailer has already hyped me up. While it may look like Black Desert at times, it’s no wonder, given the same engine.
The greater focus on story was noticeable in the trailer. I really like what I see. Now let’s wait for the gameplay!
Also, on YouTube there are many positive reactions:
- Zin Tepest: “Holy Shit, this looks awesome. It gives me Witcher and Beowulf feelings.”
- Z3us: “Where is this from? I’m not complaining, it looks incredibly cool!”
- Pawelec Widelec: “I’m rarely hyped about new games. I hope the gameplay looks like in the trailer, that would blow me away.”
- Gopta 69: “I’m buying it immediately.”
Concerns about the game: Despite all the excitement surrounding Crimson Desert, some readers and viewers on YouTube express concerns. Particularly, the fear of microtransactions, RNG, and Pay2Win keeps coming up.
As our reader Jedox writes:
No question, this will be a real graphical showcase again. But as a graphics enthusiast, I’ve bitterly learned through BDO that graphics are not everything. P2W, hardcore RNG, endless grind… No thanks.
The same concerns are also echoed under the YouTube video.
Whether Crimson Desert could become Pay2Win remains to be seen. So far, Pearl Abyss has not commented on the payment model or microtransactions. As the developer of Black Desert, they are, however, marked.
Although you are not completely dependent on real money in BDO, there are always questionable items that spark discussions about Pay2Win.
Pearl Abyss has also presented other games at G-Star 2019. Among them is a family-friendly MMORPG:
