The new TWaB for Destiny 2 has been released, bringing new prospects for the long-dusty PvP. Bungie is confident that their proposed changes will refresh the Crucible, but what exactly will change and will it truly bring a breath of fresh air? We will show you!
What are the PvP highlights? Bungie revealed many smaller changes and adjustments to PvP in their new TWaB from May 12. However, there are also larger innovations that the development team plans to introduce in the upcoming seasons, so Guardians can thrive in them. Here are the highlights to look forward to:
- New mode in Season 17 – Rift
- Iron Banner becomes a major event
- New PvP Triumph seal – This time for the Iron Banner
- New large PvP map in Season 17
- Return of the “Zone Control” mode
This also includes smaller changes that only affect individual PvP modes. But are all these “innovations” enough, or is this mainly reheated content?
A new mode – At least temporarily limited
What is the problem with PvP in Destiny 2? Aside from the fact that the PvP mode in Destiny 2 is plagued by cheaters and hackers, many players also complain about the lack of content. For years, there has been little love for the existing modes, and hardly any new content has been delivered.
Much of it feels very old and unloved, as in the eyes of the community, Bungie has done very little for PvP for far too long. However, with Season 17, this is supposed to change, according to the developers.
The Iron Banner is expected to resemble a major event, similar to the one from Eva Levante. Lord Saladin will decorate the Tower in the style of the Iron Lords during his event and present the new mode “Rift”. In return, the event style will ensure that the Iron Banner will only appear twice in Season 17 and upcoming seasons:
- Week 2 (starts on May 31)
- Week 8 (starts on July 12)
Additionally, you will be able to earn a new Triumph seal, worthy of Lord Saladin’s tough mode. There will also be a new map called “The Divide”, which is reportedly large and located in the surroundings of Savathûn’s Throne World.
If you are more interested in new loot or new knightly armor, you will have to be patient. The developers have not yet confirmed any new items. But you can still look forward to the fact that old past armors and cosmetics from the Iron Banner will likely be obtainable again from Lord Saladin.
Bungie explicitly uses the term “cosmetics”. Anyone who knows Destiny 2 knows that this primarily refers to shaders or ornaments. It is possible that players can earn the old armors from year one in the form of ornaments, which are very rare.
These are not only themed, like the appearance of samurais, but also stand out from the standard sets of the Iron Banner. Many players had long hoped to be able to obtain these armors again someday. So if you are just curious about new customization options, Season 17 may have a lot in store for you within the Iron Banner.
Are the changes enough? It’s hard to gauge, as every player defines their priorities differently. Some Guardians want to be able to play without cheaters finally, while others want more new maps or brand new modes that can bring variety.
When considering the changes that Bungie has prepared, there is something for everyone. Unfortunately, not on a huge scale, but rather in small bites. The sad thing is, however, that the “new” Rift mode will initially be available only in the Iron Banner during Season 17. You will have the chance to play the Rift mode for a total of only 2 weeks during the two Iron Banner events in Season 17.
The developers mentioned that you will only fully enjoy the Rifts when Season 18 starts, as this mode will then also be implemented into the Crucible’s rotation. At least the new map can be thoroughly tested, as it will already be available in the Crucible starting from the release of Season 17 on May 24.
