The week is coming to an end and once again there is news about Destiny 2 and its future, thanks to a new TWaB post from Bungie. This time, many changes regarding PvP are announced and they are quite significant.
What has Bungie announced? In the latest TWaB post from Bungie, many changes regarding PvP have been revealed. Bungie’s PvP strike team has done a great job planning changes across multiple updates that players will gradually enjoy until the release of “The Final Shape”.
This includes adjustments to maps, modes, matchmaking, and a mode that players will soon be able to test in the labs – “Hardware”.
A mode just for hardcore guardians: No abilities, only weapons
What will the mode look like? Hardware is set to be implemented in the labs. It is a modifier that locks all your abilities. Therefore, in the Crucible, you will only be able to do something against opposing guardians with your weapons in hand. Additionally, special and heavy ammo packs are supposed to drop, which you can then pick up and use in combat.
Why do many guardians want to fight without abilities? While in every PvP mode of Destiny 2 your abilities are active, many guardians have wished for a mode where players only fight with their weapons.
The abilities in Destiny 2 are a core feature that brings the space magic of the loot shooter to life, but in PvP they are often seen as disruptive or unfair. There are usually moments when you could easily win a 1 vs. 1, yet ults, grenades, or throwing knives are being tossed around. This annoys many players.
Destiny 2 has one of the best gunplays in the shooter genre. Guardians also want to measure themselves only with their guns to show who can handle them better. A “Nova Bomb” can unfortunately be thrown successfully by anyone, but a quickscope from a “Revered” is harder to master.
When will Hardware be released? Bungie has not given a specific date yet, but the developers have listed the chronological update order in which “Hardware” should be released. Currently, we are at version number 7.3.4.2.
First, update 7.3.5 will come, and then 7.3.6 will be released with the Hardware update. When the developers are aiming for the release is still uncertain. It is clear that you will receive the update before “The Final Shape”.
