With Profane , a sandbox MMORPG is currently being developed that offers some unique features, including the ability to build your own cities. Initial tests are planned for March.
What is Profane? Profane immerses you in an open world full of dangers. These dangers come not only from monsters but also from other players. Because Profane features open PvP with full loot. This means that if another player defeats you, they can take all your equipment.
Additionally, it is possible to conduct conquest wars and sieges like in New World. Player killing is an option, but the developers explain that such players will have a hard time in Profane. For example, they cannot enter cities in the usual way, as they will be attacked by the city guards. Player killers will have to find other ways to engage in certain activities.
Moreover, equipment plays a lesser role – with one exception: the artifacts. While conventional items provide a bonus, they are not essential (which would be unfair if they could be taken from you through the full loot system), artifacts are particularly powerful items.
Artifacts are naturally sought after by other players, which makes the owner a target. Furthermore, the items have a life of their own, and you must fulfill their wishes or they will leave you.
Profane is an MMORPG without classes and levels
What is special about the game? In the MMORPG, there are neither classes nor levels. Your character is defined by the skills. By equipping a weapon and training and fighting with it, you will get better over time. This principle applies to all skills. Mine resources, and you will improve the corresponding skill, craft items, and your crafting will get better.
Additionally, you will learn so-called ‘elemental skills’. You can obtain these skills through specific activities. It is possible to collect several of these special skills, but you can only activate a limited number. Therefore, you need to think carefully about which ones you want to use.
Furthermore, the construction of cities is at the core, which you will build from a simple hut to a small village and finally to a fortified metropolis. You must defend these cities against attacks from enemy player groups.
When will the tests start? A roadmap indicates that the first tests are planned for March. However, these will initially focus only on character customization and testing movement and controls. From then on, a new test will take place each month, bringing additional features such as combat, skills, equipment, and more.
What about monetization? For alpha access, you will have to pay by purchasing a Founder’s Pack. What the cost of that will be and when you can buy it is currently still unknown.
Once the beta starts, the developers will switch to a free-to-play model, allowing as many players as possible to test it. The game will then be financed through the sale of cosmetic items.
When will Profane be released? The developers have not announced a release date yet. It is unlikely that the MMORPG will launch before 2022.
