Recently, a new MMORPG called Moonlight Blade Mobile (Android, iOS) was released in China, generating significant interest. Over 48 million players registered before the game’s release. Moonlight Blade is a well-known MMORPG brand in China. Players in the West have been eagerly awaiting the PC version for years.
What kind of new MMORPG is this? Moonlight Blade Mobile is a standalone game that takes place in the same universe as the PC MMORPG.
Moonlight Blade Mobile impresses with:
- great graphics especially designed for mobile games
- a detailed character editor
- an active martial arts combat style
- and a vast game world inspired by ancient China.
There are 6 different classes to choose from, which, with one exception, do not feature gender locks. Additionally, “strongly childlike characters” have been avoided.
The combat is dynamic and reminiscent of the PC MMORPG, albeit with some compromises due to smartphone controls. However, the game was released with an emulator for PC, indirectly offering crossplay.
This video by YouTuber MMOJACKX57 shows how the character editor and the initial steps in the game look:
Can you also play it in Germany? Yes, theoretically you can play it in Germany. There is no region lock. You can download the application, for example, via TapTap.
However, keep in mind that the game is installed in Chinese, and the language cannot be changed. Also, consider what permissions you grant the app, as this can be complicated due to the language barrier.
If you are looking for good mobile MMORPGs in German or English, here are some of the best games:
Moonlight Blade was a success on PC and is also in demand on mobile
How high is the interest in Moonlight Blade Mobile? According to the EnyGames website, over 48 million players registered in advance for the mobile MMORPG. That’s more than five times the registrations that the highly anticipated Black Desert Mobile – which was released worldwide received in 2019.
Additionally, dozens of new servers were reportedly launched by Tencent after the game’s release to accommodate the influx of players (via MMORPG.org.pl). In the App Store, Moonlight Blade Mobile has an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars based on over 164,000 reviews.
The significant rush is not very surprising. After all, the PC MMORPG had already impressed so much that fans in the West were eager to play Moonlight Blade.
How did the PC game perform? Back in 2015, we reported on Moonlight Blade on PC. The game received good reviews at launch and still receives regular updates today. English servers for the MMORPG were announced back in 2017. However, these have not yet been released.
Readers on MeinMMO praised Moonlight Blade primarily for its great graphics and general setting, which Keragi described as “less cheesy than in Blade and Soul.”
Currently, however, Nexon is silent about the originally planned release in the West. Perhaps the success of the mobile version will ensure that it comes to us.
