At the last minute, the developers have postponed the release of the Minecraft MMORPG Hegemony – But it looks so good!
An MMORPG set in the world of Minecraft? Yes, you heard it right. The project “Hegemony” has been in development for quite a while and was supposed to launch tomorrow (February 22, 2020). However, at the last moment, the game has been postponed for another two weeks. Bugs and illnesses have caused the launch to take a little longer.
What is Hegemony? Hegemony is a large open-world MMORPG in the style of Minecraft. Moreover, it even uses Minecraft as the basis of the game. The entire world is therefore in the familiar “blocky graphics”, but has a lot to offer. There are:
- Numerous towns with inhabitants
- Level system
- Long quest lines
- A comprehensive crafting system with 30 professions
- Different weapons with individual advantages and disadvantages
- Buyable and rentable buildings
- NPCs that you can recruit
But there’s no need to give up on free building. If you want, you can buy a piece of land and build your own home there in typical Minecraft fashion. However, this is clearly not the focus of the game.
Basically, Hegemony offers a lot of freedom and should provide all those who like MMORPGs and can get into the graphics with countless hours of gameplay. A first glimpse is given by this trailer:
Why was the release postponed? In the official forum of Hegemony, the developers spoke out and explained that there are mainly two reasons for the postponement of the release:
- The developers are dissatisfied with the performance. They conducted too few stress tests and want to fix a few problems. They could release already, but they want a smooth launch so that everyone is satisfied.
- The development team is plagued by illnesses. The project was created by only 3 people, of whom 2 are currently – also due to stress – suffering from an illness. They want to avoid overloading the remaining developer and placing the burden of the launch weekend solely on them.
The new release date is now March 7, 2020 – thus the date has been postponed by 2 weeks.
How can you participate? If you want to play Hegemony yourself, you only need an unmodified Minecraft launcher of the respective version used by Hegemony and connect to the server. This can be done using the following data:

Alternatively, you can also download the official client here as soon as it becomes available at launch. It comes with better performance, significantly improved graphics, and many other minor features. Using the official client of Hegemony is therefore recommended.
Please note that both methods will only work from March 7 onwards, when the game officially starts and is not postponed again.
How is the game financed? Basically, Hegemony is free and has so far been financed through donations and supporter packages. These grant additional skins in the game, allowing you to stand out from the crowd. However, purchasing these packages does not bring a gameplay advantage, but it is nice to appreciate the developers’ work.
