The Yellow King has launched on Steam as a new MMO in Early Access that aims to scare you. It is inspired by the works of horror author H.P. Lovecraft and offers endless gameplay.
What is The Yellow King? The Indie MMO mixes roguelike elements with MMO features and takes you to a dark world haunted by grotesque creatures. Cooperating with friends, you set out to fight these monsters. You slash through endless dungeons similar to a hack ‘n slash, collect items, and upgrade your hero. PvP is also possible.
A dark god wants to destroy your soul, which probably isn’t very funny for you, so you want to prevent it.

What is a Roguelike? Basically, it is an endless dungeon crawler that only ends when your hero dies or you finish the game. New levels with content are continuously generated. Most roguelikes do not provide a real story or conclusion.
The goal is to get as far as possible, defeat as many monsters as possible, and collect plenty of loot.
What makes The Yellow King special? The MMO is set in a horror scenario. The creatures you fight are inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and resemble the Cthulhu Mythos. Those familiar with the books know that slimy beings with tentacles await you here, appearing to have sprung from a nightmare.
However, you should not expect a realistic look. The Yellow King opts for a stylized, comic-like graphic that still shows brutality such as blood, dismemberment, and the burning of NPCs. So, the MMO is not delicate in any way.
What status is the MMO in? The Yellow King is still in Early Access. This means it is a fairly early version that does not yet offer all content and may have bugs. According to the developers, only about 20 percent of the game is currently visible. The focus is on testing these systems:

- Server stability
- Client performance
- Account creation and login

How is the game currently received? The current rating on Steam is 80 percent and very positive. Players believe that a little gem awaits us here, even if the Early Access phase has its problems.
