A new horror survival game is coming out just in time for Halloween, on October 25, 2023, on Steam. According to the developers, the game is inspired by genre classics and what has been seen so far reminds many of games like Silent Hill. Check out the trailer here.
What kind of game is this? Stray Souls is a survival horror game that will be released on Steam, but will also be playable on PS4/PS5 and Xbox.
The game is inspired by genre classics like Silent Hill and what has been shown in the gameplay closely resembles this fan favorite.
This third-person game has been developed in Unreal Engine 5 and with MetaHuman Technology, promising you an intense horror experience. What sounds promising at first is emphasized even more with an equally impressive trailer.

What is Stray Souls about? You take on the role of Daniel after he inherits his grandmother’s house. This begins his story in the cozy town of Aspen Falls

But when he encounters a strange woman, it quickly becomes clear that nothing is as it seems. For some reason, this woman wants to learn everything about Daniel’s family and past. You will explore Aspen Falls with Daniel to find out what is going on with the residents and this mysterious stranger.
What does the trailer show? The trailer shows you a horror game that has the potential to be a good, scary game.
Because the townspeople will not be Daniel’s only encounters. You will see nasty, inhuman creatures against which you must defend yourself with weapons. These include zombie-like beings that are nothing but skin and bones or an animalistic giant.
Starting with a sequence in which someone is crouching in the laundry room in front of a pile of corpses and seemingly contentedly brings a bloody finger to their mouth, Stray Souls definitely promises some creepy and possibly disturbing cutscenes – which may not be for the faint of heart.
Away from the run simulations, back to the classics
What are the reactions? Horror fans express their enthusiasm for the announced game in the comments (via YouTube). While many horror games lately have felt more like run simulations
with good and bad jumpscares at times, or like playable movies, Stray Souls seems to want to bring back the feel of classic horror games.
