Do you prefer action-packed MOBAs like SMITE? Then the new Kingshunt might be interesting for you. Soon you will get to try it out.
What is Kingshunt? The game is officially referred to as an online multiplayer action game played from a third-person perspective, combining tower defense mechanics with hack and slash combat.
The trailer strongly resembles the MOBA SMITE, but with a significantly darker atmosphere. PvP battles are at the center, where two teams consisting of 5 players each face off against each other. The video shows how it goes down:
Kingshunt mixes Hack and Slay with Strategy
What is special about the game? The developers want the battles to be action-packed yet tactical. You are actively attacking like in a hack and slash game, but you need to coordinate your attacks. For example, it is important to watch when the opponent drops cover to attack immediately. Additionally, it is essential to use special abilities strategically, as they significantly influence the outcome of a battle.
The battles are said to be somewhat inspired by Soulslike games like Demon’s Souls or Bloodborne. You need to find the weaknesses of your enemies and exploit them. This is supposed to lead to unique gameplay, where battles are not just mindless action, as this video proves:
How do I participate? The alpha of Kingshunt starts on November 28. You can sign up for the test on the official website. With a bit of luck, you will be selected.
The MOBA is set to launch on Steam in Spring 2021.
What else is interesting? Just like in SMITE, you have the choice between multiple heroes, each with different skills and play styles. You choose the character that suits you best. It is important for the team to use heroes that complement each other due to their abilities.
Additionally, elements from tower defense games come into play. In the first phase of the game, you build defensive towers in strategically smart locations. In the second phase, it is necessary to lure the opponents so they can be caught by these towers. This leads to very strategic, yet action-packed gameplay.
