A mother quickly became aware of what it meant when her 5-year-old child became interested in Pokémon GO. As it is still too young for its own smartphone, she now jumps in as a substitute trainer – and she is certainly not the only one.
What does the mother report? On Reddit, the mother and newly minted trainer reports about her 5-year-old child who became interested in Pokémon GO due to its uncle. So far, her son has already played other Pokémon games on her Nintendo Switch, but Pokémon GO offers the perfect opportunity to play together with family as well.
For this reason, the mother decided to download Pokémon GO on her smartphone. She does not want to deny her child this opportunity, on the contrary. To provide a nice and prepared gaming experience, she will actively participate in the game herself.
Mother grinds PokéStops so that her child can play carefree
What does the mother of the child take care of? Equipped with Pokémon GO on her phone, she ensures in her daily life that her child’s account is always stocked with enough Poké Balls and other items when it’s time to play together.
She reports that she is logged in all day and especially spins a specific PokéStop located near her house. Since she works from home, she can receive new items every few minutes throughout the day, but she doesn’t stop there.
She also takes care of field research and further tasks – a lot of work that she does in the shadows so that her son can catch monsters relaxed. She doesn’t mind, she simply refers to them as her tasks as “Pokémom”.
What special reaction does she receive from the community? Based on the numerous reactions to her Reddit post, she finds not only many tips and praise for her efforts but also resonance from other “Pokémoms”.
The mothers, who like the poster experience Pokémon GO together with their children and family, often report how they started playing due to their children, sometimes through persuasion, and are now absolutely thrilled themselves.
Jacaroe also reports her experience with her children who persuaded her when they were in first and second grade in 2016. After a 9-year break and significantly older children, they started playing together again: “One of the best things about it? I walked about 300 miles just for the game in the summer and lost about 15 kilos!”
1zzyBizzy also thinks that many mothers would almost prefer to play themselves rather than their children, who introduced them to Pokémon GO: “I actually know about 10 parents and even a grandmother who all started with Pokémon GO because their children started first and they had a similar agreement as you. Their children stopped playing a long time ago, but they still play regularly.”
Based on the experiences of these “Pokémoms”, it becomes clear that not only young people or devoted Pokémon fans find pleasure in Pokémon GO. It is even more delightful to read that many children and their parents spend time together with the game and gather experiences. However, one experience of a “Pokédad” shows that in some cases it is better to take a closer look at what one’s child is doing in Pokémon GO – otherwise, one might regret it later: Child wastes Master Ball in Pokémon GO, the community knows exactly what the father should do with the monster
