Even though this is not an official confirmation, it is a strong indication that they will address the monster or at least its story. But who is SpaceGodzilla actually?
Godzilla, but from Space
What kind of Kaijū is SpaceGodzilla? The monster made its first appearance in the Japanese film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla from 1994. Visually, it looks like Godzilla, except it has crystals on its shoulders and back. It has a flight form that, according to Wikizilla, weighs about 720,000 tons. In its combat form, it is significantly lighter at 80,000 tons.
Over time, there have been various backstories. In its first film, humans proposed the theory that Godzilla cells landed in a black hole, somehow merged with crystal organisms, and the energy of an exploding star then created the monster. So, quite absurd nonsense, especially since it is unclear how the cells even got there. In the movie, they either assume it was Biollante, another Godzilla clone, or Mothra.
In the very absurd series Godzilla Island, SpaceGodzilla is an ally of the Xilians, an alien race, but we’ll ignore that for this article.
Unlike monsters that destroy because they act territorial or are disturbed, SpaceGodzilla is significantly more intelligent and evil. He wants to conquer Earth, and for that, he must kill Godzilla.
A powerful opponent that Godzilla is outmatched against alone
How strong is SpaceGodzilla? Thanks to his crystals, SpaceGodzilla can absorb cosmic energy and fire it as a laser. At the same time, he can also create crystals and use them as projectiles or as a shield. Additionally, he has telekinetic abilities that allow him even to lift Godzilla.
In battle, Godzilla clearly had no chance against his space brother. His atomic breath was blocked, and Godzilla could not reach hand-to-hand combat, one of SpaceGodzilla’s weaknesses. However, before Godzilla could be killed, humanity sent the robot M.O.G.U.E.R.A., which first appeared in 1957.
Back then, he was still an enemy but was used as an ally of the Defense Force of Earth against SpaceGodzilla and was actually intended as a weapon against Godzilla.
The robot managed to destroy the crystal on SpaceGodzilla’s shoulder. After that, he was so weakened that Godzilla could ultimately destroy him.
How could SpaceGodzilla be implemented in the MonsterVerse? Since the MonsterVerse has no problem with absurd explanations, SpaceGodzilla could simply come from space, after all, something like hollow Earth has already been established.
As the film features Godzilla and Kong, Kong could take on the role of M.O.G.U.E.R.A. This means he could support Godzilla, but he would probably have no chance in the fight either. Already in the film New Empire, he left the powerful Kaijū Shimo to Godzilla.
