A new trailer shows one of the game modes of New World for the first time in detail. The “Outpost Rush” is the PvP of the MMO – more precisely, PvEvP – and strongly resembles common survival titles like Conan Exiles.
What kind of mode is this? Outpost Rush is a so-called PvEvP mode, in which players fight not only against other players but also against the environment. The mode was already introduced in April as a return of the PvP, which had previously been removed.
In Outpost Rush, two teams of 20 players each compete against each other and try to capture or destroy the titular outposts. There are various ways to do this:
- at its core, you are playing against another team, so kills are important in any case
- collected resources can be used to upgrade the outpost
- you can summon powerful NPCs to assist you in the conquest
- a boss grants the team that kills it a strong bonus and temporarily freezes the opponents’ points
Scattered across the map are three outposts and several PvE objectives that you can tackle. The goal is to reach 1,000 points. You can sign up for Outpost Rush solo or with a team of up to five players.

Survival features enhance gameplay
How much survival is involved? A key aspect of the mode is the construction and improvement of the outposts that you hold. You are supposed to build and reinforce gates or set up turrets and oil cauldrons to keep enemies at bay.
For the expansion, you need resources like wood and ore, which you find and mine in the surrounding area. Both building and gathering resources are significant components of the gameplay of modern survival titles like Conan Exiles.
In many survival games, you have to build a base and reinforce it so that other players can’t tear it down and steal your loot. The better you fortify your base, the harder it becomes for the opponent.
It appears to work similarly in New World, except you can’t build freely but can only place predefined components. However, the pure gameplay could also come from a PvP-focused survival MMO, just condensed into pure PvP battles without other survival features.
When can I play myself? New World is set to release on August 31, 2021, for PC, a closed beta starts on July 20. The development of the game has been quite adventurous – from a PvP game to the now more construction and PvE-focused MMORPG.
