An MMORPG was shut down after a few unsuccessful months. This was also due to the largely negative reviews. Now the game is back on Steam under a different name.
What kind of game is this? Element Quest was an MMORPG on Steam. The game relied on various elements that you should use cleverly. For example, you could deal a lot of damage with the fire element and support your colleagues with water.
However, the game that reminded of the anime Avatar was shut down after just 2 months. The developers explained that they might return with the MMORPG on Steam.
What is coming back now? The developers are bringing the game back to Steam as “Sunset World Online”. The screenshots and the open video clearly show that it is not fundamentally different from the failed predecessor “Element Quest”.
The game is primarily supposed to focus on group play. There should be dungeons that you can complete with 3 to 5 players. There will also be boss fights that will demand a lot from you. There should also be a shop, but there you will only get cosmetic items and new character slots. Pay2Win elements, such as experience point boosters, are not planned so far.
For the predecessor, the developers had already announced a lot of new features. Whether these features, such as housing or the PvP system, will also make it to “Sunset World Online” is still not known.

The developers of the MMORPG felt treated unfairly
Why was the game shut down at all? In a detailed blog post on Steam, the developers explained that they had been overwhelmed by negative criticism. However, this did not sit well with the developers, which is why the development of the game ultimately failed. The developers explained on Steam:
The team was demotivated by the fact that the game was received so negatively. While we tried to improve the situation, we were unable to achieve enough victories to keep the ship above water. Thus, the negative feedback piled up, and a lead developer decided to leave us.
In addition, there were some criticisms that consisted only of “bad game” or “not fun” and which could not help the developers much in improving. Other developers demand exactly this and even state that players in their MMORPG must decide the entire development, which is very well received.
By the way, Element Quest was not the first MMORPG that was shut down in 2022. We already know several MMOs and online games that have already died this year or will still do so:
