This month, Sea of Thieves will receive a major update that introduces quests, fishing, cooking, and the announced Arena mode. In the video, you will see the Arena mode.
What’s included in the update? On April 30, the Anniversary Update for Sea of Thieves is set to be released. So far, it is the most extensive update for the pirate adventure.
The expansion brings:
- The new game mode “The Arena”
- Quest campaigns
- New types of ship damage
- New factions
- Harpoons
- Fishing
- Hunting
- Cooking
Players have been waiting a long time for this huge update.
Reasons why Sea of Thieves will become interesting again
Reason 1: The new Arena mode offers a completely new gaming experience. In a time-limited competition, 5 teams compete against each other to score as many points as possible.
Reason 2: New quests provide more PvE content and stories. In the expansions Hungering Deep and Cursed Sails, these story tasks were already tested, and now they are being expanded. However, the new story will not be time-limited but always available.
Reason 3: New factions. In the Arena mode and the Adventure mode, you will encounter a new faction each. The guys in Arena mode will reward you with cosmetic items. In Adventure mode, you are supposed to go hunting.
How the Arena works in Sea of Thieves
How to join the Arena: When you start the game after the update, you can choose whether to join the Arena mode or the previously known Adventure mode. This is a competition mode.
What’s new in the Arena? There you will find a new trading company where you can gather reputation. With that, you unlock cosmetic items and can also work towards becoming a pirate legend.

How to play: Players are placed in galleons in teams of 4. However, there is also the option to join the queue in smaller groups and fill them either with random players or close the group for more players.
Then, together with 4 other teams, you go onto the map. A round currently lasts 24 minutes.
There are various arenas. These are based on locations already known from Sea of Thieves. The arenas are circular and encompass five or eight islands, reports Polygon.
At various locations on the map, you can return treasures. Always with the risk that other players might sink your ship.
Is it all about PvP? No. Most points are collected by players through retrieving and returning treasures. They can also collect many points by sinking enemy ships. Killing opponents gives smaller rewards to make bigger objectives more interesting. This should be very strategic.

What else does the update bring?
New quests for Sea of Thieves: The new campaign system is called Tall Tales and will be released in the big April update.
The stories of Tall Tales can be found in the future with the mysterious stranger who stands in the corner of the taverns. You activate the stories like the voyages on your ship.
A new faction: There is also a new faction for the adventure mode. These are hunters. They give you the opportunity to fish, prepare pigs and chickens, and hunt krakens and megalodons.

Targeted damage to ships: The update allows you to specifically damage a mast or the spill (the anchor chain holder). With a hit, the anchor of the opposing ship drops straight to the ground – players must repair it immediately to be able to continue sailing.
The mast can also fall over. You will then need 3 wooden planks to repair it and continue your journey.
Harpoons on ships: You can find harpoons at the bow of the ships. They can hit and pull almost anything. You can pull other pirates on board or steal treasure chests from their hands.
What changes of the April update are you particularly looking forward to?
