In Helldivers 2 there is no long tutorial, and one relies more on “learning by doing” or “learning by dying”. However, this also means that many players lack basic information.
Which mechanics are known by only a few? In Helldivers 2, taking a look at the game’s tooltips is worthwhile. Especially since the short tutorial means many players do not have as much information about how the game works. This fits with the lore of the game, but it also leads to frustration among more experienced players.
A mechanic that frequently costs inexperienced players the victory is particularly inconspicuous. The longer you stay on the planet, the more enemies will stand in your way. While this may not sound bad at first, it often leads to wipes during pickups.

The mechanics cost rounds, and you don’t notice it at first
What is the problem with the mechanics? Many beginners approach their rounds like this: First, complete the main missions, and then walk through the map again to complete samples and side objectives. But that is their big mistake.
The longer players walk around the map after the main mission for minutes, the greater the onslaught of enemies upon pickup. Here, players fall into a delayed “High Risk – High Reward” trap, as the onslaught only truly begins during the pickup.
Then many players fail to escape. Or they just barely manage to after several respawns, leaving their samples on the ground. This not only leads to frustration over overly difficult evacuations but also to many not knowing what they should change.
How can it be done better? It is better to quickly complete the main missions and only take what is within immediate reach. Of course, more experienced players with good loadouts can take more risks, but beginners should rather focus on the main objectives and the escape. There will be plenty of samples over time – if one doesn’t keep dying.
