In Taiwan, a brutal massacre was almost prevented. Thanks to the efforts of many people, the worst was avoided. One of the individuals is a huge anime fan and bravely confronted the attacker because his favorite character would have acted the same way.
What happened? On May 21, 2024, a terrible incident occurred in the Taichung metro in Taiwan. An individual attacked randomly with a knife but was stopped by 17 bystanders. They attacked him with umbrellas and grabbed his hair (via China Times).
Due to their brave efforts, there were “only” four injuries, three of whom had to be admitted to Lin-Shin Hospital. Among them was also the attacker, who was subsequently taken into custody. Fortunately, there were no fatalities.
Nine of the 17 heroes received an award. Among them was Xu Ruixian, who wore a Monster Hunter t-shirt during his award ceremony. He called himself an otaku and revealed that he only acted this way because a character from the currently most popular anime would have done the same.

Anime fan loves Himmel from Frieren so much that he becomes a hero
How did the award ceremony go? During his award, Ruixian quoted the character Himmel from the anime Frieren. Because Himmel was so brave in the anime, the anime fan found the courage to confront the knife attacker:
If it were Himmel, he would do the same. If I could rewind time, I would make the same decision again.
He also wanted to clarify that otakus or anime fans in general are not bad. He hopes to dispel the negative stereotypes surrounding them. No stereotypes should be created.

Who is Himmel? Himmel is one of the most important characters from Frieren. Together with the elf mage and some other characters, he defeated the Demon King. However, at the beginning of the anime, he passed away due to his old age.
Frieren and Himmel had a respectful and loving relationship with each other. For Frieren, the funeral was the moment she realized that she hadn’t gotten to know Himmel well enough. This moment triggered her new journey with Fern and Stark.
Although Himmel is no longer alive, he is often seen in his younger years in the first season. Frieren enjoys reminiscing about the moments with her companion. In connection with these flashbacks, the quote mentioned by the brave man from Taiwan was also cited.
