Episode 5 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is titled “In the Name of the Mother”. Although he only wanted to prepare for the knight tournament, Duncan now has to face the consequences of his attack on Aerion Targaryen.
Aerion demanded a trial by the Seven as punishment, which takes place in the new episode. The 7 champions of Duncan will face 7 champions of Aerion. The big twist still in the fourth episode: Crown Prince Baelor fights for Duncan.

A tough battle, especially for one side
What happens in the battle of Episode 5? From Duncan’s perspective, one sees the brutal and dirty battle. The knights charge at each other and each is looking for their own opponent:
- Duncan shows clear panic before the fight and receives a hard lance strike from Aerion right at the beginning.
- Duncan pulls the lance from his torso. After a strike from Aerion’s morning star, he faints.
- In his unconscious state, Duncan remembers his childhood and how he came to Ser Arlan of Pennytree. In the flashback, one sees the loss of a childhood friend and Ser Arlan in action.
- After the flashback, Duncan wakes up again lying in the mud, and a fight starts between him and Aerion.
- Both knights fight and injure each other, and Duncan falls to the ground again. In a final moment, Duncan gets up just before the end of the trial.
- The crowd cheers and Duncan charges at Aerion. He throws the Targaryen to the ground and beats him with his shield and fists.
- Duncan does not kill him but forces Aerion to surrender. The trial by the Seven is over, and Duncan wins.
What is the outcome for both teams? Although Duncan has won, the balance of his champions is not particularly favorable:
- Ser Humfrey Beesbury was killed by Ser Donnel of Dämmerthal
- Ser Humfrey Hardyng also dies during the trial
- On Aerion’s side, everyone has survived
The biggest shock is the death of Prince Baelor Targaryen. One sees a severe wound on the back of his head. It was struck by the club of his younger brother Maekar.
Baelor dies in Duncan’s arms and the episode ends. Since Baelor was the eldest son of King Daeron II Targaryen, after his death Aerys I Targaryen (who has not been seen in the series so far) becomes the new heir to the throne.
With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the world of Westeros is once again extended in series form. Unlike House of the Dragon, Duncan’s adventures are much closer to the events of the original series.
