In the third act of Baldur’s Gate 3, there is a ship in the city harbor that carries a particularly valuable cargo. Although it is not gold, it is still heavily guarded. 

What kind of treasure is it? It is a chest that contains a total of 6 mind flayer larvae. The larvae can be consumed and unlock illithid abilities that can make your characters significantly more powerful.

You can divide the larvae among your party (as long as the companions agree), or invest them all in one character to unlock as many new abilities as possible. But how do you get to this loot?

Where exactly is the chest located? The chest is located in the third act of the game on a ship in the city harbor. There you can find the hiding place on deck and pocket the larvae.

How do you get to the chest? The ship is located in a restricted area where you should not be discovered if you want to avoid conflict. However, there are various ways to still reach the loot.

Of course, you can just fight your way through, but that is easier said than done. The area is guarded by the Steel Watch, who can deal considerable damage and restrict your movement.

A much more relaxed method is to make yourself invisible and sneakily grab the larvae. That way, no one will notice, and you can quickly make your escape to enjoy the powerful delicacy.

Is it even worthwhile to eat the larvae? Each player is free to decide whether to consume the mind flayer larvae. This decision is not imposed by the game, but it does have consequences.

If you choose to do so, it unlocks the skill tree of illithid abilities, which can be of great benefit in combat or even outside of it. Additionally, there may be further dialogue options in certain situations that can influence the direction of the game.

However, a decision may become significantly harder towards the end of the third act if you have consumed even one of the little worms. But we don’t want to spoil that for you.
