World First was yesterday: Recently, a raid group accomplished something that not many players of Final Fantasy XIV believed possible at all. A handful of players managed to complete the raid The Omega Protocol on the hardest difficulty level Ultimate, and that without a single healer class.
How did the players master the raid? The group used 5 DPS classes and 3 tanks, with 2 of the tanks being paladins. This means that no healer classes such as white mages, scholars, astrologians, or sages were used.
However, paladins have the ability to heal themselves. Thus, these tanks were able to manage without a healer while the rest of the group had to behave accordingly during damage dealing without being spared at all.
Overall, it was a balancing act to minimize or even avoid any damage through timing and positioning. The Ultimate level is even tougher than the previous Savage raids, which were up to now the toughest content in Final Fantasy XIV. One mistake, and it often meant repeating the raid. User: “Healers think that healing is a waste of time”
What are the reactions from the fans? Although the world-first races in raids in Final Fantasy XIV are of broad interest to fans of the MMORPG, this incident has excited the community on one hand, but on the other hand led to a fierce discussion on Reddit (via Reddit).
Fans believe they have exposed the issue of Final Fantasy XIV with this YouTube video. Players who claim the healer class as their main
class apparently feel at a disadvantage right now.
Those affected, like user SunshineWasTake, claim that the healer is becoming more and more useless every day
(via Reddit). Rather, even the healer classes are currently concentrating on damage rather than healing.
User MiddieFromMhigo agrees: The healer philosophy in this game has so regressed that healers now think that healing in terms of the healer role is a pure waste of time.
User John_Bumogus adds that the number of dungeons where he only provided minor healing is incredible
, and that sometimes he intentionally triggers an overheal to feel like he is contributing something.
Square Enix has not yet commented on this incident. However, fans hope that the developer will make the healer classes more relevant in their role, as it used to be in the add-on Stormblood according to several fans (via Reddit).
What kind of raid is this? The Omega Protocol was integrated into the MMORPG at the beginning of the year on January 24, 2023, with Patch 6.3. The raid is divided into 6 phases, namely:
- Phase 1 – Omega Beetle Form
- Phase 2 – Omega M/F Form
- Phase 3 – Omega Reconfigured
- Phase 4 – Blue Screen
- Phase 5 – Run: Dynamis
- Phase 6 – Alpha Omega
The phases describe the different incarnations of Omega and its diverse mechanics. The difficulty level Ultimate is also the highest level at which one can play this raid.
