In Destiny 2 there has been a new top grenade launcher since Shadowkeep. We will show you how to get the boss killer “Love and Death” and look at which perks are best for it.
This is the weapon: The grenade launcher “Love and Death” came with the Shadowkeep expansion to Destiny 2. The weapon is thematically associated with Eris Morn.
In Shadowkeep, you help Eris Morn rid herself of her nightmares and free the moon from the Hive. Eris and the moon are veterans known from Destiny 1.
This is how you get the grenade launcher: To claim the powerful weapon for yourself, certain conditions must be met:
- First, you need the “Essence of Madness” – you get the essences from the Nightmare Hunts. The highest drop chance is granted by hunting the fanatic known from Forsaken (Madness).
- Next, the essence needs to be cleansed. For this, you need 100 grenade launcher kills and the item “Handcuffs of Binding”. The 100 kills can be well achieved solo in a Nightfall with the “Heavyweight” modifier or with the exotic grenade launcher “Lion’s Roar“. Read here how to find the Handcuffs of Binding.
- After that, you can pick up your new weapon at the Enchantment Table next to Eris.
- Once cleansed, you can buy the “Essence of Madness” again at the table. In exchange for “Illusory Cores”, your hunt for the perfect grenade launcher can begin as often as you want.
This is what “Love and Death” can do: The legendary grenade launcher is used in the power weapon slot and requires heavy ammunition. It deals solar damage and has a rate of fire of 150, making it one of the fastest-firing representatives of its kind. This grenade launcher family also includes the extremely powerful “Ravenous Swarm”.
Grenade launchers are currently among the strongest weapons in the power slot. Even after the recent nerfs to the automatic reload mechanics, grenade launchers can impress in almost all situations.
What is the God Roll to kill bosses with Love and Death?
What are the best perks? The characteristics that make the grenade launcher a true boss killer are presented here. Due to the chance for special perk combinations, “Love and Death” stands out. For the so-called God Roll, you need:
- Barrel: “Fleeting Shot” – increases the explosion radius
- Magazine: “Spike Grenades” – significantly increases direct impact damage,
- Trait 1: “Ready for Anything” – increases your ammo reserve and allows faster reloading and handling while crouched
- Trait 2: “So Much Better” – increases explosive damage (up to 25%) the farther the projectile travels
- Masterwork: Explosion Radius
The best possible perk combination can be explained to you in detail by YouTuber Falloutplay in this video:
This is how you play with the grenade launcher: Since “Love and Death” has such a high rate of fire, you can unleash its 5-shot magazine on a boss in no time.
To take advantage of all the properties of the God Roll, you should shoot while crouched. This allows you to reload extremely quickly and lose little valuable time during damage phases. You can put the boss under fire again immediately.
Thanks to the rare perk “So Much Better”, you receive bonus damage on your explosions depending on the distance (up to a maximum of 50 meters) to the enemy – which are larger thanks to “Explosion Radius Masterwork” and the right barrel. The “Spike Grenades” also increase the impact damage.
Since the exotic tractor cannon has been increasing all elements equally by 30% since Shadowkeep, “Love and Death” surpasses the Void brother “Ravenous Swarm” as the strongest boss killer in Destiny 2 due to its better perks.
The top weapon “Wendigo GW3” can compete with the new grenade launcher, but only for the first 6 shots.
The perfect loadout: “Love and Death” fits perfectly with other top PvE weapons. The new boss killer can be combined with the exotic sniper “Izanagi’s Burden” and the outstanding “Lone Spider”. This way, you are effective at any distance and equipped against all enemies.
