Next year, the science fiction series “The 3 Suns” is set to premiere on Netflix. Liam Cunningham, known to many from Game of Thrones, was immediately convinced by the script, as he mentioned in an interview.
What kind of series is it? The sci-fi series is called The 3 Suns and is based on the well-known Chinese book trilogy The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu.
This is the most elaborate Netflix series to date, boasting a gigantic budget of 200 million euros.
In the story, humanity has made contact with an alien species on the planet Trisolaris. However, the aliens want to invade Earth to escape their inhospitable planet, leading to a conflict between the two life forms.
Behind the series adaptation of the book series are the two Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
Actor Liam Cunningham, whom you know as Ser Davos Seaworth from the fantasy series, also collaborated again with the showrunners from Game of Thrones and took on a role in the sci-fi series.

“These guys are absolutely extraordinary”
Liam Cunningham expressed his enthusiasm on August 23, 2023, to Collider about the wonderful script of The 3 Suns and praised the work of Benioff and Weiss:
It’s always about the quality of writing, and these guys have written some of the best things I’ve ever seen in my life.
And I say this even though I spent a year and a half with the Royal Shakespeare Company. I performed Shakespeare on stage.
These guys [Benioff and Weiss] are absolutely extraordinary, the words they put in an actor’s mouth.

Later, the actor mentioned that he does not know the novels on which the series is based. He also hadn’t read the Game of Thrones books.
Nevertheless, he trusted Benioff and Weiss directly that they would create a great series, even when he had received no information about the Netflix production yet. He even turned down another project for this:
To tell the truth, I haven’t told anyone else, I was in serious talks for another project, and obviously the guys found out about it, and I got a call from David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss], they just said: “You’re not doing that. You’re coming with us.”
I didn’t even know what project it was and I just said: “Yeah, okay. I’ll turn the other people down.”
It could have been a day’s work on the other thing, but when the two call, you listen to that call.

When does The 3 Suns start? No exact date has been announced yet for when the sci-fi series will start. However, it has been announced that it will premiere in January 2024. The 3 Suns will then be available on Netflix and consist of 8 episodes.
