Pokémon GO brings the next Gigantamax Pokémon. The monster crab Kingler challenges trainers. And they know: This won’t be easy again.
When does Gigantamax Kingler appear? Gigantamax Kingler appears on February 1, 2025, between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. During this time, his own event is taking place: the Dyna Battle Day.
During this time, it appears in level 6 Dyna battles. The following bonuses are available:
- You can collect up to 1,600 Dyna particles, the limit is increased
- Giga Kingler appears at all power sources in the game
- Power sources are renewed more frequently, so more battles are possible
- You get eight times the amount of Dyna particles at power sources
- Additionally, you receive double Dyna particles from walking (from 12:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
- You only need a quarter of the walking distance to receive Dyna particles (also from 12:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
But one thing is clear: Getting the Pokémon will be difficult despite all the bonuses.

What kind of Pokémon is Gigantamax Kingler? The Gigantamax form of Kingler transforms the monster into a gigantic crab, which is also notable for its long beard. The Pokédex states that Giga Kingler crushes everything with its left claw and emits alkaline bubbles that have a corrosive effect.
In Pokémon GO, Kingler is one of the strongest water attackers overall. Its Gigantamax form is expected to be a top monster, at least for the time being, as it will become the most powerful water attacker for Dynamax battles.

What makes the battle day so difficult? The Gigantamax monsters are brutally hard to defeat. You need a lot of trainers just to have a chance of success.
In past Gigantamax days, Niantic mentioned that you would need 10 to 40 trainers to defeat the beasts. Experience shows that about 20 trainers are needed onboard to succeed in the battle – at least if you have the right counters and tactics.
This also means: Many trainers, who lack a suitable community in their area, will have problems successfully tackling Gigantamax battles. Trainers in the Reddit community for Pokémon GO also point this out:

- “My community simply doesn’t care. We are a small town, but we have a dozen players + an active Discord. I’m lucky if I can do a Dynamax Frigometri battle. This GMax just doesn’t happen for us,” says user CastelofWamdue (via reddit).
What Pokémon to use against Gigantamax Kingler? The best counters are likely to be Dynamax Gortrom, (Giga)dynamax Riffex, and Dynamax Bisaflor. The soon-to-be-released Dynamax Zapdos should also be an option.
How difficult Giga Kingler will be this time remains to be seen. However, Niantic has clarified in the past that these battles are meant to be the toughest challenge in the game.
