Weight, ergonomics, and battery life
The weight: In the basic configuration, the mouse weighs either 72 (honeycomb pattern) or 75 grams (closed cover). Thus, the gaming mouse is strongly oriented towards the shooter competition, which comes with similar values.
- The HyperX Pulsfire Haste weighs (for the test) about 61 grams.
- Razer’s Viper Ultimate weighs 74 grams.
- Logitech’s G PRO X SUPERLIGHT weighs 63 grams.
The ergonomics: I have very large hands with a size of 19 centimeters. In palm grip and fingertip grip, all buttons are easily reachable for me. The pleasant ergonomics are complemented by the good mouse feet, as I can move quite quickly on my mouse pad because of them.
The mouse does not use any rubber coating on the sides, so it lies “naked” in my hand at first. The surface of the mouse is quite smooth, but I did not find that disturbing in everyday life. However, you can buy grip tape from third parties and stick it onto the mouse.
Battery life: The manufacturer specifies the battery life as around 50 hours. However, the indicated figures are only achieved under optimal conditions (lighting turned off). I can easily play with the mouse for 3 to 4 days in a row before the device needs to be connected to the cable again.
Somewhat annoying: If I don’t use the mouse for a few moments, it switches to some kind of power-saving mode. Then it takes the mouse a second to react to my actions again.
The mouse buttons, scroll wheel, and sensor
The mouse buttons: In the standard configuration, there are Huano switches under the mouse buttons. These offer audible and crisp clicking under the fingers.
Additionally, there would also be switches from Omron and Kailh included. Omron is used by Logitech, for example. The switches can be easily swapped out, but you should turn off the mouse beforehand.
The scroll wheel: The scroll wheel is rubberized and offers good grip. Scrolling is noticeably notched, and the scroll wheel is fairly stiff. This is very practical for quick weapon changes; however, for scrolling through text or web pages, it is too hard for me.
Sensor: The PixArt 3370 is used in the Nyf 22. This is superior to the popular PixArt 3389 in several points, such as lift-off distance and especially in speed (via reddit.com).
The sensor is very precise and accurate. It struggles only partially with smooth glass surfaces, where accuracy quickly comes to an end. On rough surfaces like wood, the sensor then works flawlessly again.
Conclusion: Good mouse for shooter players
Who is the mouse suitable for? With the Nyf 22, you get a high-quality and customizable gaming mouse that is especially suitable for fast games, such as shooters. In particular, the low weight and the good mouse feet emphasize the speed.
What alternatives are there?
- The G Pro X Superlight is even lighter at 63 grams and offers a closed housing. However, you cannot swap mouse switches here either.
- The Razer Viper Ultimate weighs 74 grams but offers a significantly higher battery life of around 70 hours.
- The HyperX Pulsfire Haste would be my budget tip in its wired variant for around 50 euros, the wireless variant for about 90 euros also worth recommending.
