A player buys a new graphics card for his gaming PC and justifies it to his wife with a good purchase price. However, his wife is skeptical, questions the price, and checks the whole matter with an AI. And she gets her doubts confirmed.
Who is reporting this? A user reports that the wife of a player contacted him. The player bought an RTX 5090 from him, and the wife wanted to know if he really sold the graphics card for just 999 US dollars, as her husband claims (via Reddit.com).
When the seller confirms this and says it is a good price, the wife responds: “Why does the AI respond so differently then?” In response, she attaches the chat history with an AI chatbot, in which she asks the chatbot what kind of graphics card it is and how much it usually costs.
Did the man lie? Yes, the seller explains himself in another post on Reddit that he sold the graphics card for significantly more to the user, namely for 4,700 US dollars. The price the user told his wife was far too low, and he paid almost 5 times as much.
Even for German standards, that is very expensive: According to Geizhals, in Germany, you pay at least 2,999 US dollars for an RTX 5090. However, the prices from so-called scalpers are significantly higher.
We tested AI to see if it could classify a graphics card based on an image
We conducted the test: We uploaded a snippet of the graphics card ourselves and asked ChatGPT how much the graphics card in the picture costs. And yes, the chatbot recognizes the graphics card and can also estimate the price. Therefore, we can understand the approach of the “deceived” wife.
By the way, the outcome of the story about the player and his wife is not known. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the wife was extremely angry that her husband lied to her like that.
Another player had just as little luck with his RTX 5090, but here it is not his lie that is the problem, but the graphics card itself. A problem that many buyers of the RTX 5090 actually share. Many players are annoyed by this because they paid a lot of money: Players buy a graphics card for 2,300 euros, but just a few hours later the RTX 5090 is already dead
