A 19-year-old from Nice in France came up with the idea to buy a Playstation 4 at “fruit price”. However, he was caught and sentenced to 4 months in prison – but on probation.
As “creative” as the idea was, it was simply theft.
Playstation 4 relabeled as fruit
What happened? Last September, 19-year-old Adel from Nice picked a Playstation 4 off the shelf in a supermarket in the town of Montbéliard and weighed it in the fruit and vegetable section.
He then stuck the price the scale displayed onto the packaging and went to the self-checkout. There, he paid around 9 euros and left the store.
No one stopped him that day.
The trick only worked once
How was he caught? Adel did not want to use the PS4 himself to play the cool PS4 MMORPGs, but sold it for 100 dollars. Allegedly, to afford a train ticket back to Nice, as he later stated.
When he tried the “coup” again the next day, he was caught and taken into custody by the police on site.
What happens now? Adel was charged with theft and was supposed to appear in court in Montbéliard last week, which he did not. He did not show up for his own trial.
Subsequently, the judge imposed a probation sentence of four months. He is not allowed to commit any offenses for 5 years, otherwise he will have to go to prison.
