In ESO there will be a controversial feature with the upcoming Update 33. There will be account-wide achievements from then on. But what sounds good at first glance is not liked by all players of the MMORPG. They wish for an option, which is not shared by the developers. Learn everything about the topic here at MeinMMO.
What is the new feature about? In the upcoming Update 33, ESO will finally get a feature that other MMORPGs like WoW have had for a long time. It involves account-wide achievements.
This means that – if one of your heroes masters an achievement – all other heroes of your account can display this achievement and its associated titles.
Up until now, players had to painstakingly complete the achievements they wanted on a hero, which has cost a lot of time, especially for accounts with many characters.
Players love and hate the new feature
What do the players say about it? To improve accessibility, developer ZeniMax wants to make the achievements account-wide. However, this has faced criticism. Players who have already invested many hours into achievements with their twinks complain that this work is now literally for nothing.
Now everyone has everything. And you can’t even see who had the achievements earlier and who didn’t. You can only see which hero obtained the achievement first. A proponent of this opinion is, by the way, our MeinMMO author Melli, who considers account-wide achievements to be a bad idea.
Other players in the ESO forums also see an important argument for the replay value of ESO here. Because farming achievements on twinks is an important reason for some to play ESO. That would simply disappear.
Other players, however, are looking forward to the new feature. User Vexen from the ESO forum says:
I would like to have the ability to use titles that I have earned for any character, for whatever reason I want. When this was announced, I didn’t know a single person who was upset about it, and people were excited. Please don’t assume that the ten or twenty people [who reject the feature] are the majority.
For many players who wouldn’t have bothered grinding achievements, this feature is probably a good idea, which is probably the reason why the developers implemented it in the first place.
Players want the choice, but the developers say ‘It won’t work’
What do the players want as a solution? Nevertheless, there are enough players who belong to some camp but are open to a compromise. Because – as the players say – it wouldn’t be a problem to make the feature optional for each character. One could simply enable the feature for some heroes and not for others?
What do the developers say about it? However, ZeniMax gives a clear answer to this question. In a FAQ about the new feature, community manager Gina Bruno writes that this cannot be done piecemeal. Rather, it is a complex process of merging databases.
Therefore, they cannot make exceptions and cannot offer an option to turn the feature on and off. That would nullify all the advantages this would provide for performance in the game.
It seems that the developers are not willing to meet the community’s wishes here. You will have to deal with the account-wide achievements when they come to the PC version of ESO on March 14.
What is your opinion on this feature? A good idea or a big nonsense? Let us know in the comments.
