The Super Mario Bros. Movie premiered on April 5, 2023, on the big screen and took off in theaters. Although there were discussions beforehand about main actor Chris Pratt, many viewers celebrated the video game adaptation of the Nintendo classic.
Especially Jack Black as the villain Bowser thrilled many, and his song Peaches became a hit on the internet.
In terms of box office revenue, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was able to surpass other animated films. However, there is one princess who could achieve even higher box office numbers than the plumber.

Super Mario Bros. reaches 2nd place among animated films

In the category of animated films, the new Super Mario movie secured 2nd place with worldwide sales of around $1.3 billion.
Only one Disney film can top this. With a box office gross of over $1.45 billion, Frozen 2 from 2019 is at the top of the cinema profits in the animated sector.
Behind the Super Mario movie, Disney productions Frozen (2013) and Incredibles 2 from 2018 follow in 3rd and 4th places (as of June 6, 2023).
In the overall ranking from The Numbers comparing all movies, the Mario movie performs quite well.
Bowser makes it to 20th place there, having overtaken several Marvel films such as Iron Man 3, Captain America: Civil War, or Spider-Man: Far From Home in terms of box office earnings.
