Disney Dreamlight Valley is a sandbox through and through. Besides the main story, most of the game actually revolves around improving and beautifying your own valley. A task that consumes quite a bit of star coins.
To earn star coins in Dreamlight Valley, you usually grow pumpkins. They take the longest to grow with four hours, but they also yield the most coins per individual plant, with 664.
So Disney Dreamlight Valley is associated with a lot of grind if you want many coins and a beautiful valley – perfect for a long-time MMORPG player like me. But there are also other ways to earn coins, such as redeeming promo codes.

Disney characters help me grind and level up too
To grow the plants, you need a large field. Before we start doing anything, we take a companion from the village with us, to whom we have given the skill “digging”. He levels up with every action and gives additional rewards for the grind when he levels up.
First, we plow a field and are rewarded for every shovel stroke with a nice sound and occasionally a small random drop. The field can be as large as we want. I have seen some players on Reddit who have transformed entire sections of the map into a pumpkin farm.
When our field is the desired size, we switch out our resident and take one with us who has the skill “gardening”. For every little plant we put in the ground, we receive friendship points for our companion.
When all tilled fields are full of seedlings, we can still water our field. The watering can has an AOE effect, and if you position yourself correctly, you can efficiently water the fields.

Finally, a grind that is really fun
Disney Dreamlight Valley knows the target audience of cozy gamers well. It combines popular elements from MMORPGs, such as experience points, leveling, and rewards for milestones, with rewarding sounds and engaging graphics.
Since the game has no competition and does not force me to grind, it makes it even better. I farm voluntarily because I want to beautify my village. Disney Dreamlight Valley excites me as a long-time MMORPG veteran because it makes grind rewarding.
The grind gets even better since you only get good plants like pumpkins quite late in the game – before that, you have to rely on poorer alternatives.
It is also important that you need to buy the seedlings and thus have to reinvest part of the earnings again. A little brains is also required.
Perfect for MMORPG players despite cozy gameplay
Even if many may not want to admit it, Disney Dreamlight Valley is the best non-MMORPG you can play. It reminds me of a time when the leveling phase wasn’t rushed just to finish the dailies on the first day.
The game gives me back a feeling that MMORPGs haven’t given me in a long time: a relaxed leveling phase, grind when I want it, and rewards in the form of coins that I can use for meaningful things.
