With the new expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket, players can apparently look forward to a new card type: Pokémon Equipment.
It’s almost time: The new expansion “Collision of Space and Time” for Pokémon TCG Pocket will be released. The new packs and cards are set to be available in the game on January 30, 2025.
Thanks to the new trailer for the expansion, some of the upcoming cards for Pokémon TCG Pocket are already known. And one of these cards makes it clear that we will be getting a new card type in the game.
In the trailer, the card “Pachirisu-ex” is briefly visible. The interesting part is the effect of the attack “Device Spark”:
If 1 Pokémon Equipment is attached to this Pokémon, this attack does 40 more damage.
So it’s clear: The Pokémon Equipments that you already know from the main trading card game are now also appearing in TCG Pocket. You can even filter your card collection for them right now, as there is already a corresponding button in the search function – just no results yet.
But what kind of cards are these actually? Let’s take a quick look here.
Here you can see the current trailer revealing the expansion:
What is Pokémon Equipment in the Pokémon Trading Card Game?
This is Pokémon Equipment: These are cards that essentially correspond to the portable items of your Pokémon from the video games. These equipment cards are considered item cards.
You can attach such equipment to your Pokémon. The equipment remains attached to the Pokémon until it is knocked out or the card is resolved by some other effect. At least in the analog TCG, Pokémon can only hold one equipment at a time.
There are plenty of examples, and accordingly, many effects. Common effects either increase the damage a Pokémon deals or reduce the incoming damage. But there are also plenty of other variations, like effect prevention, reduction of retreat costs, and more.
Which equipment cards will appear in TCG Pocket remains to be seen – as well as how many. Additionally, it is still unclear how exactly the cards will be implemented in the mobile game. However, the Pachirisu effect suggests that we will also be dealing with cards held by Pokémon here. What is certain is: It could introduce some new tactics into the game. In general, this new set could shake up the established meta when looking at certain cards.
