A player in Pokémon TCG Pocket faced a promising deck in a battle without ex-cards, featuring an interesting tactic: instead of attacking the active Pokémon, damage is dealt to the cards on the bench. MeinMMO shows you how to recreate the deck and provides important tips on it.
What kind of deck is this? A player on reddit encountered a deck in a battle that consisted of the following cards:
- 2x Quajutsu
- Kicklee
- Digdri
Reddit user Diamond-Days describes in his post (via reddit) that he noticed something was off when the opponent brought out a Froxy, but at the same time had battle energy. An energy that Froxy, as a water Pokémon, cannot use.
Diamond-Days was able to defeat the deck but was still impressed by the creativity. Because when used correctly, this deck can definitely be effective against ex-decks.
In our video, we present you with more strong decks:
This deck targets the Pokémon in the back row
What makes the deck so special? The cards in this deck are arranged in a way that they do not attack the opponent’s active Pokémon but rather the Pokémon on the bench behind.
- Quajutsu has the ability “Water Shuriken,” which means that this card does not need energy to attack with it.
- Kicklee deals 30 damage to a Pokémon on the bench with its attack “Stretch Kick.”
What is the advantage of the deck? If the opponent plays a deck that takes a long time to build up, you can prevent that with this deck. Especially Charizard or Gengar ex decks require a lot of time to set up, as they need two evolutions and a lot of energy to attack.
However, if you target the basic Pokémon, you can weaken the final ex-Pokémon beforehand or defeat the basic Pokémon altogether, thereby preventing the evolution entirely. This way, you can counter strong ex-decks and weaken them early on.
Here’s how you can recreate the deck
You will definitely need the following cards:
- 2x Kicklee
- 2x Froxy
- 2x Amphizel
- 2x Quajutsu
The template also includes Digdri, and accordingly Digda. However, they are not very important for the purpose of the deck. You can include them or another Pokémon to have more Pokémon in total.
We recommend these item and supporter cards, but you can certainly choose others:
- 2x Pokéball
- 2x X-Initiative
- 2x Potion
- 2x Professor’s Research
- 2x Giovanni
- 2x Sabrina
You don’t always have to use ex-cards and the corresponding decks. Even decks without these cards can be strong. MeinMMO shows you how to build a good counter deck to ex-cards with Alakazam: Pokémon TCG Pocket: Alakazam Deck – How to use the psychic Pokémon correctly
