Gaming influencers are saving taxes by relocating their residence abroad: German-speaking Twitch streamers have been moving to Madeira for years. For Spanish-speaking streamers, their Madeira is the state of “Andorra,” but they will soon require a language test.
This is the situation:
- Large Spanish-speaking streamers have been emigrating to Andorra for years, apparently for tax reasons
- Some of the most famous streamers include Rubius (the xQc of Spain) and TheGrefg, who rose to fame through Fortnite
- From 2026, however, Andorra will require a language test

Andorra will soon subject residents to a “language test”
What do the streamers have to demonstrate? As 3D Juegos reports, starting in 2026, Andorra will require an A1 test in the language “Catalan,” the official language of Andorra, from all residents. By 2029, residents must pass an A2 test.
The language level “A1” corresponds to that of a beginner. It requires understanding and using everyday expressions and simple sentences. One must be able to answer questions like “Where do you live?”.
A2 then requires describing one’s origin with at least simple words.
The A1 test is expected to last about 80 minutes, while the A2 test will take nearly two hours. According to 3D Juegos, the tests are roughly at the level one would expect from 11-year-olds.
Streamer complains: If he had known this, he would never have moved there
How do streamers react? Rubius has spoken positively about this change: He sees it as a challenge, as otherwise he would never have learned Catalan.
Another streamer, Augstin51, is outraged about it. He says he moved to Andorra five years ago and was never forced to do anything. He can be “happy and free” here. Now the government comes along out of the blue and meddles with him. If they had told him five years ago that he had to learn Catalan, he would never have gone.
From a German perspective, one inevitably wonders in this discussion how German streamers in Madeira are actually doing with their Portuguese language skills.
