Since its release, Apex Legends has captivated thousands of players, partly with new, innovative features. One of these has now even inspired one of the biggest shooters to copy it: Rainbow Six: Siege.
What is this feature? It is about the ping system, which has been celebrated as absolutely brilliant by many players since the release of Apex Legends. The feature allows contextual pings. This means you can give various warnings and messages to your team members, such as:
- I am going there
- I am watching this area
- There is an enemy over there
- Someone was here
- I am looting there
The system was so good that Battle Royale competitor Fortnite quickly adopted it. The shooter Borderlands 3 also orients itself to this system for loot pinging. It really seems to be good enough that big shooters want to adopt it.
The system immensely facilitates playing with others, especially if one does not want to use voice chat for various reasons.
Rainbow Six: Siege gets pings like Apex Legends
This is the change: In Rainbow Six: Siege, it is currently only possible to deliver a ping without context. The yellow marker does not say much, except that there is something apparently important for the player.
With the upcoming Ping 2.0 system, this is set to improve. It has already been shown that players will receive a contextual gadget ping, with which they can ping a single gadget permanently. This has been learned by PCGamer in an interview with game designer Jean-Baptiste Halle.
This means, for example, that attackers can inform their team about the location of a trap using reconnaissance drones. A complete menu with contextual pings will follow later.
Such a system has already been demanded by fans in March 2019. Back then, Ubisoft stated that they were considering it. Now, the plan is slowly becoming a reality. The system is expected to come during Year 5.
Rainbow Six: Siege is extremely successful despite its age, which is likely a credit to Apex Legends as a source of inspiration. However, Apex Legends has not only inspired Rainbow Six and not only with the ping system:
