Some companions can be found in Baldur’s Gate 3 only later in the game. A player is playing through the RPG for the first time and is in Act 3 after several hundred hours, where he meets Minsc. Veterans have known the barbarian for almost 30 years.
Spoiler warning: This is about content that you will find only in Act 3 of the game.
What kind of companion is this?
- Minsc is one of the 10 companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 and is a ranger by default.
- The hallmark of the Rashemi is raw violence, blunt humor, and above all, his miniature giant space hamster Boo.
- Minsc is voiced by the legendary voice actor Matt Mercer (Critical Role, Cassidy in Overwatch). Mercer is one of the most well-known Dungeon Masters worldwide and is considered an absolute genius in Dungeons & Dragons.
This is what makes Minsc so special: Minsc is the only companion that you can recruit only in Act 3, just before the end of the game. However, you first have to free him, as he is under mind control.
A player has now met Minsc for the very first time after investing several hundred hours into the game (via Reddit). When he met him for the first time, his reaction was:
Okay, the dude is clearly a badass, he has something. Then I recruited him, and I was like: “Okay, looks g… – Wait, is he just running off to smash stone walls to show me something?” And then we meet BOO, I can’t tell you how quickly the character became one of my favorites.
Many new players have shared similar reactions in the past. For veterans, this is a reason for joy, as they have known Minsc for ages.
Rangers are by default one of the weakest classes in the game – Here’s how you can respec Minsc if you want:
“Minsc has been our homie for 30 years”
Minsc was already a companion in the first Baldur’s Gate from 1998, which was an RPG by Bioware. Since then, he has appeared in every part of the series and even had appearances in some D&D books and comics, as one user explains.
The ranger is simply an icon in the world, it is said. Larian has done a superb job capturing Minsc’s character and bringing him to life in Baldur’s Gate 3. In particular, his lines are among the best in the entire game. When you first meet Boo and respond with: “It’s an honor,” Minsc simply replies: “Uh, no. That’s a hamster.”
Minsc is not available as a romance option, just like Jaheira – he simply does not really understand that people are flirting with him. Or he has enough decency not to lead someone on and is just pretending, it’s not entirely certain.
However, many users in the community agree that Minsc is not really a companion. The actual companion is Boo. He just happens to be with Minsc because they are inseparable. The two have even appeared in one of the MMORPGs of Dungeons and Dragons: Neverwinter: “Always watch your back, Boo!” Gigantic miniature space hamster spotted.
