The developers of World of Warcraft, Blizzard, have filed a lawsuit against a free-to-play game from China. Glorious Saga is said to be “almost entirely copied from Warcraft games,” according to the lawsuit. Even the icon of the mobile game is copied from the current WoW expansion Battle for Azeroth. We show gameplay from the game. In response, Glorious Saga closed immediately after the lawsuit became known.
What does Blizzard want? Blizzard’s lawyers filed a lawsuit against Sina Games and their free-to-play game “Glorious Saga” on August 16. They want the company to stop violating Blizzard’s rights.
Blizzard is demanding $150,000 for each copyright infringement, plus attorney and court costs.
This is what Blizzard says: The accusation against the game is that “every monster, every creature, every animal, and every vehicle has been copied from the Warcraft games. Weapons, amulets, and other objects have been taken directly from the Warcraft games, without any attempt to disguise it. Audio cues and sound effects have been reproduced from the Warcraft games.”
Even the icon of Glorious Saga on mobile is apparently stolen from the expansion “Battle for Azeroth.” In both icons, a human and an orc are glaring at each other angrily.
What kind of game is this? Glorious Saga is a mobile game that is available in China and can also be downloaded in the USA. There, it is called “Glorious World,” but has a different developer.
It is described as a “real-time strategy game” where you build an empire.
Game shuts down immediately
Update August 30, 9:24 AM: Just yesterday, the news on the FB page of Glorious Saga stated that they had a good time with the game, but now must shut down for reasons they cannot resist.
On August 29, the servers went offline. They apologized for it.
In the past, Blizzard has taken action against copies of their games from China. For example, in 2015, they were able to win a lawsuit. Even in this game, characters like Thrall, Jaina, or Sylvanas were seen in a somewhat quirky version:
